Our Story

Evergreen Antiques was founded in 1982 in SoHo, NYC by Paul Sigenlaub, who had the vision to bring unique collections of Scandinavian furniture and design to New York.   Originally focused on painted country furniture and folk art, Evergreen built a strong following within the design community and with collectors who embraced the freshness of the furnishings.  By 1983, the success of the SoHo shop enabled Evergreen to secure a second, larger space on the Upper East Side of New York.

Recognizing that there was a growing population in New York with an appreciation for more formally decorated homes, but with a Scandinavian influence, Evergreen diversified its offerings to include a wider representation of furniture, including selections of Late Gustavian, Karl Johan and Empire period pieces.

Now in its fourth decade, Evergreen Antiques continues its tradition of servicing the design trade as well as its private clientele.  The legacy and vision of the founder are carried forward by his Danish wife, Susanne Sigenlaub, and his long-time Gallery Director, Laurence Fox, who spends much of his time in Copenhagen. Evergreen’s collections now include furniture from the first half of the 20th Century, but still hail primarily from the Northern European and Scandinavian regions.   Today, 19th Century period pieces sit comfortably alongside early workshop Modernist furniture from the Danish Design and Swedish Grace periods.

True to our founding vision, Evergreen believes in comfortable interiors, be they contemporary or traditional.   In our Modernist pieces from the early 20th Century, as well as in those from the 19th Century Neoclassical period, you will find that clean lines and classic design make them suited to a diverse range of interiors.

Evergreen Antiques currently operates out of the New York Design Center (NYDC) at 200 Lexington Avenue, 10th Floor, New York, NY  10016, where you can visit our showrooms and see our ever-changing collections of period furnishings. Sourced and selected to meet the criteria of our discerning clientele, our expanded collection can also be viewed on the web at 1stdibs.com.  With bespoke service and attention to detail, Evergreen continues to be regarded as one of New York’s preferred sources for period Scandinavian furniture and decorative pieces.
